Easter Bonnet Parade in NYC
On Easter Sunday, 5th Av is the traditional place to see fine Easter bonnets and extreme fantasy outfits as "paraders" wander along Fifth Avenue from 49th to 57th Streets. Photographers also flock to this colorful event to capture the extravaganza. A New York traditions since the 1800's, the Easter Parade is held every year on 5th Avenue. The streets are closed off to traffic, allowing paraders to stroll the length from 49th to 59th St. ..Mostly congregating near St. Patrick's Cathedral.
The traditions started as the upper class, after attending a local church service would stroll the avenue to show off their fashions.
Today, there is a mix of Easter Finery, as well as the bizarre. The result is a colorful, photogenic mix that causes many people to take aim and capture the spectacle.
